Missouri Tigers vs. Purdue Boilermakers Betting Preview

In this Saturday game, Missouri is projected as the favorite and is currently giving up 7 points. If they are wanting to play the moneyline, gamblers would currently need to put up $300 in order to win $100 back on the Tigers (-300). The Boilermakers are getting +220 moneyline odds. Should one team can catch a lucky break in the early stages, it would probably create a worthwhile betting scenario in-game.

The game’s line opened at 8 but has moved a bit recently.

The Tigers are 2-0 against the spread (ATS) and have gained 1.0 unit this season. The team’s posted an Over-Under record of 1-0. The hapless Boilermakers have lost 9.6 units this year. They’re 0-2 ATS and own an O/U record of 1-1.

The Tigers have gone 2-0 straight up (SU) in 2018 while the Boilermakers are 0-2 SU.

The Tigers are looking to remain unbeaten following a 40-13 victory over Wyoming last week. The passing game was sharp as Drew Lock completed 33-of-45 passes for 398 yards and four touchdowns. Damarea Crockett (73 yards on 19 rushes) and Tyler Badie (46 yards on 11 carries) provided the ground attack in the win while Emanuel Hall (10 receptions, 171 yards, one TD) and Albert Okwuegbunam (seven catches, 50 yards, one TD) handled the receiving duties.

Purdue most-recently lost a 20-19 game to Eastern Michigan. The team’s defensive secondary allowed the Eagles to air it out for 347 yards. Blake Banham had a productive showing for Eastern Michigan, posting 99 yards and a score on six catches. As a group, the Boilermakers collectively completed 14-of-24 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown. Elijah Sindelar went eight-for-14 for 87 yards and one touchdown while David Blough was six-of-10 for 48 yards. D.J. Knox (152 yards on 21 rush attempts, one TD) and Markell Jones (109 yards on 12 carries) spearheaded the ground game in the defeat while Rondale Moore (three receptions, 16 yards) and Cole Herdman (three catches, 33 yards) led the receiving corps.

Missouri has run the ball on 53.3 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Purdue has an overall rush percentage of 48.9 percent. The Tigers have run for 184 yards/game and have three scores via handoffs this year. The Boilermakers are averaging 272 rush yards per game and have three total rushing TDs.

The Tigers offense has tallied a superb 396 yards per game in the air overall and has eight passing scores so far. The Boilermakers have produced 203 pass yards per contest and have two total pass TDs.

On the defensive side of the ball, Missouri seems to have the upper hand in both facets. The team has allowed 91 rush yards and 172 pass yards per game. The Purdue defense has allowed 291 yards per game to opposing passers and 117.5 yards per game to opposing runners. The Tigers are allowing an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of only 5.52 to opponents, while the Boilermakers have given up a 6.9 ANY/A.

Passing-wise, Lock has put up 398 yards this season, and has completed 33-of-45 attempts with four scores through the air and has yet to throw an interception. He’s got a pristine 10.62 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 12.10 over the last two games.

Emanuel Hall (171 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown this season), Damarea Crockett (73 rush yards, 32 receiving yards) and Johnathon Johnson (61 receiving yards, one TD) have each played significant roles of late.

For the home team, Elijah Sindelar has managed to complete 8-of-14 passes for 87 yards, one TD and zero INTs. Sindelar’s ANY/A stands at 6.80 for the season and 3.87 across his last two games.

We’re expecting the Boilermakers to control tempo by feeding the running backs early and often. In addition to Rondale Moore (16 receiving yards this season), D.J. Knox (152 rush yards, one rush TD) and Markell Jones (109 rush yards, one TD) have been focal points in the Boilermakers’ recent offensive strategies.

When these two teams met last year, Purdue knocked off Missouri soundly 35-3.
