NCAA Football Free Betting Preview: Connecticut Huskies at Tulsa Golden Hurricane

A couple of schools that prefer running the football, Golden Hurricane (-18) are set to host their in-conference foe Connecticut Huskies in Tulsa. The matchup is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. ET and CBS Sports Network has the TV rights.

Connecticut is a significant road underdog in this AAC game and is currently being given 18 points. The Huskies are also receiving +800 moneyline odds while the Golden Hurricane are -1450. It appears that there could be some good live betting opportunities for this game, and oddsmakers have set the over/under (O/U) at 58.5 points.

Sharp bettors have been siding with the over. The game’s over/under was initially placed at just 55.5.

The Huskies look to get back on track after a 22-17 defeat to Massachusetts last week. David Pindell completed four passes for just 15 yards and one interception. Pindell (120 yards on 21 rush attempts, one TD) also led the ground attack and was complemented by Kevin Mensah (82 yards on 21 carries, one TD) in the loss. Zavier Scott (one receptions, seven yards) and Keyion Dixon (one catch, four yards) handled the receiving duties.

Tulsa just suffered a 24-17 defeat to Tulane. The defense allowed the Green Wave to rush for 312 yards on 55 attempts, including three rush TDs. Corey Dauphine had a productive outing for Tulane, accounting for 107 rushing yards on 18 attempts. For Tulsa, Seth Boomer completed 12-of-26 passes for 180 yards and one touchdown. Shamari Brooks (57 rushing yards on 18 attempts) and the signal-caller Boomer (33 yards on 10 carries) mounted the ground attack in the defeat as Justin Hobbs (four receptions, 25 yards) and Cole Neph (three catches, 34 yards) led the pass-catching corps.

Connecticut has run the ball on 58.6 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Tulsa has a rush percentage of 63.8 percent. The Huskies have rushed for 202 yards per game (including 189 per game versus American Athletic Conference opponents) and have 13 scores via handoffs this year. The Golden Hurricane are totaling 190 rush yards per game (191 in conference) and have 12 total rushing TDs.

The Huskies offensive scheme has averaged 180 yards in the air overall (199 per game against conference opposition) and has 10 passing scores so far. The Golden Hurricane have put up 168 pass yards per contest (170.3 in the AAC) and have seven total pass TDs.

Defensively, Connecticut has allowed 316 rush yards and 310 pass yards per game. The Tulsa defense has allowed 165.9 yards per game to opposing passers and 224.4 yards per game to opposing runners. In the hosts’ locker room, Seth Boomer has completed 31-of-78 passes for 486 yards, three TDs and one INT. Boomer’s ANY/A stands at 5.16 for the year and 3.93 over his last two outings.

When these two squads met a year ago, Connecticut knocked Tulsa off by two field goals 20-14.
