Boise State Broncos vs. Air Force Falcons Betting Preview

Air Force is entering this MWC matchup as a significant underdog and is currently getting 10 points. If they want to play the moneyline, gamblers would currently need to lay down $400 in order to win $100 back on the Broncos (-400). The Falcons are getting +300 moneyline odds. Oddsmakers have set the over/under (O/U) at 58. With the spread standing at Air Force +10, Vegas thinks this has the look of a 24-34 win for the Broncos. If one squad can find paydirt early, it will probably produce a solid betting opportunity in-game.

The Broncos are 4-3 against the spread (ATS) and are down 3.6 units so far. The team’s posted an O/U record of 4-2-1. The Falcons have lost 1.8 units this season. The team is 4-3 ATS and has an even O/U record of 3-3.

The Broncos have gone 5-2 straight up (SU), including 3-1 SU against conference opponents. The Falcons are 3-4 SU overall and 1-3 SU in conference play.

The Broncos want to keep things rolling following a 56-28 victory over Colorado State last week where Brett Rypien completed 22-of-26 passes for 308 yards and four touchdowns. Alexander Mattison (85 yards on 20 rush attempts, one TD) provided the running attack while A.J. Richardson (six receptions, 137 yards, two TDs) and CT Thomas (five catches, 60 yards) handled the receiving duties in the win.

Air Force just put together a 41-35 win over UNLV. The Falcons defensive unit allowed the Rebels to run for 139 yards on 33 rush attempts, including two rush TDs. Lexington Thomas had a productive outing in the loss for UNLV, recording 108 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 20 attempts. For Air Force, Isaiah Sanders completed nine-of-11 passes for 217 yards and one touchdown. Sanders (173 yards on 21 rush attempts, three TDs) mounted the running game while Ronald Cleveland (three receptions, 100 yards, one TD) and Marcus Bennett (two catches, 44 yards) led all Air Force pass-catchers in the win.

Boise State has run the ball on 49.5 percent of its offensive possessions this year while Air Force has a rush percentage of 81.2 percent. The Broncos have run for 159 yards/game (including 142 per game against Mountain West opponents) and have 13 scores on the ground this year. The Falcons are totaling 264 rush yards per game (262 in conference) and have 20 total rushing TDs.

The Broncos offense has averaged 321 yards in the air overall (286 per game versus conference opposition) and has 19 passing TDs so far. The Falcons have recorded 123 pass yards per contest (130.8 in the MWC) and have four total pass scores.

On the defensive side of the ball, Boise State has allowed 122 rush yards and 225 pass yards per game. The Air Force D has given up 236.3 yards per game to opposing passers and 106.6 yards per game on the ground. The Broncos are giving up an adjusted net yards per pass attempt (ANY/A) of just 5.87 to opponents, while the Falcons have allowed a 7.82 ANY/A.

Offensively, Rypien is up to 1,867 passing yards on the year, and has completed 68 percent of his 221 attempts with 16 scores through the air and only two interceptions. Rypien’s got an 8.37 adjusted net yards per pass attempt, including 8.28 over the last two outings.

As a group, A.J. Richardson, Alexander Mattison and CT Thomas have combined for 541 total yards and five touchdowns over the last couple of outings.

In the other huddle, Isaiah Sanders has managed to complete 26-of-41 passes for 506 yards, two TDs and one INT. Sanders’ ANY/A sits at 11.09 for the season and 9.35 across his last two outings.

We expect Sanders to distribute the football early and often in this one. Isaiah Sanders (zero receiving yards), Ronald Cleveland (238 receiving yards, two receiving TDs), and Geraud Sanders (141 receiving yards) have collectively put up 167 receiving yards over the last couple of games.
