Midwest Region Best Games

No. 8 Texas Tech vs. No. 9 Butler

The Red Raiders somehow made it through the gauntlet that was the Big 12, but they didn’t do so unscathed. Truth is, they made it in because of their conference affiliation, and now they’re tasked with proving that worth against a three-headed monster in Butler. The Bulldogs’ Kellen Dunham, Kelan Martin, and Roosevelt Jones can all score the ball in different ways and from different spots. Should be fun to watch Tubby Smith back in the Dance.

No. 4 Iowa State vs. No. 13 Iona

Iona can put up points, there’s no doubt about it. Though, the same can be said for an Iowa State team that has as much supposed offensive firepower as anyone else in the Tournament. This game should be high scoring and have plenty of pace, making for an entertaining watch on the first weekend of the tournament.

No. 6 Seton Hall vs. No. 11 Gonzaga

Gonzaga is one of the most talented No. 11 seeds we’ve ever seen, but can their guard play handle the likes of Isaiah Whitehead and Desi Rodriguez? When the Pirates are on, they’re very hard to beat on the perimeter and Gonzaga has had its fair share of guard play issues this season. Though, if Kyle Wiltjer puts on a show…all bets are off.

No. 3 Utah vs. No. 14 Fresno State

Coming off a crushing loss in the Pac-12 title game, a lot of people are saying that Utah looks vulnerable. The truth is, their guard play is simply suspect at times. With the Bulldogs, they’ve got MWC Player of the Year Marvelle Harris in the mix, who could give the Utes trouble. However, Jakob Poeltl remains to be dealt with.

Somewhere between psychotic and iconic, William finds refuge in the sound of a leather ball bouncing on a wooden floor, preferably with a Burgundy in hand.
