Midwest Region Predictions
Virginia might not love the distinction of having the best No. 2 seed in their region, but thankfully for them they don’t need to deal with the Spartans this weekend. The first round looks as compelling as potential match ups in the second round, especially in the middle of the bracket.
Utah might struggle early with Fresno State’s guards, but I expect their experience and Jakob Poeltl to help them pull away late, advancing to later in the weekend where they’ll match up with an experienced and suddenly Cinderella-esque Gonzaga team, who will simply avoid silly mistakes against a hot-cold Seton Hall group.
Purdue and Iowa State should move on after slow starts, while Dayton is the wildcard of the weekend, along with Texas Tech. If the Flyers can knock down a few shots, they should be able to handle the Orange. In the end, I think they do, while Butler upends Tech.
From there, things get exciting. I have Virginia, Michigan State, Utah, and Iowa State sliding into the Sweet 16, though anytime we pick chalk there’s a level of nervousness that settles in.
