NCAAF Picks: By the time he retires for good, Bill Snyder may be considered one of the greatest college football coaches of all time. Former Oklahoma Sooners coach Barry Switzer in fact called Snyder the “Coach of the Century” for his work at K-State. Ironically enough, the Wildcats took command of the Big 12 conference standings after their 31-30 win at Oklahoma last week.
The Texas Longhorns escaped with a 48-45 home win over woeful Iowa State last week as they are going through the initial growing pains of a vast remake under new head coach Charlie Strong.
The Wildcats will host the Longhorns at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on Saturday with coverage on ESPN starting at noon ET. Kansas State opened as a 10-point favorite.
Hookin’ Profits
Texas is 3-4 straight up but 4-3 against the spread with a 3-4 mark under the total. Strong has improved the Texas defense to rank 35th overall nationally. The offense however has been abysmal and ranks 99th overall 103rd for scoring. The loss of retired QB David Ash due to concussion issues stripped what little hope the offense had of generating production.
Purple Powers Up
Kansas State is 5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS, and 4-2 over the total. Their only loss was a game that they should have won over Auburn but the football Gods evened that up when Oklahoma missed a 19 yard field goal late in last week’s game. K State ranks 14th for scoring offense and 39th for total defense.
Matchup and Pick
Texas has improved as a betting value in road games with four payouts in their last six away matchups. The Longhorns have gone under the total in four out of their last six road tilts.
Kansas State has been a reliable long term betting value at home with 14 payouts in their last 20 games at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The Wildcats have gone under the total in seven out of their last 11 home games.
Kansas State has dominated the cashier’s cage in their head to head series with Texas as the Wildcats have come away with the money in nine out of the last 10 meetings. Texas and K-State have gone under the total in two out of their last three matchups. We’ll call for Kansas State and under the total.
