Nebraska News: Scott Frost Hypes Up Adrian Martinez

Despite a 4-8 season in 2018, there is plenty of optimism surrounding Scott Frost’s second year at the helm of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Many are calling for Frost and Nebraska to have a very successful 2019, and the Huskers are seen as a contender for the Big Ten West title this season. A lot of that will depend on Adrian Martinez’s development, and Frost talked about that at Big Ten Media Days on Thursday.

Scott Frost gave a couple colorful quotes during his time on the podium at Big Ten Media Days, but he is trying to pump the breaks on the hype a little bit. Although the Big Ten West is wide open, he knows there’s a long way to go before Nebraska can really consider itself to be a contender in the division.

Bill Connelly’s preseason S&P+ numbers project Nebraska at No. 45 coming into this season, but there is a lot going for the Cornhuskers. Frost made a massive jump in his second year at UCF, and he played a lot of underclassmen during his first season in charge of Nebraska

If Nebraska is going to make a big jump in 2019, Adrian Martinez will be a major part of it. Martinez flashed a lot of potential during his freshman season, and Frost wants everyone to know that Martinez is his guy going forward. Frost is known as a quarterback guru for his work with Marcus Mariota and McKenzie Milton, and that reputation would be cemented if Martinez led Nebraska to a Big Ten West title this season.

While Frost is trying to play down expectations, Nebraska AD Bill Moos is embracing them. He wants to get the Cornhuskers back to the top of the college football pecking order, and Moos knows how important this season is to that goal.
