Brooklyn Nets small forward Rodions Kurucs was arrested in New York on a misdemeanor assault charge from an alleged June 27 incident involving his then-girlfriend.
According to multiple media reports, the 32-year-old woman took two months to report the alleged altercation. Kurucs turned himself into a Brooklyn police station on Tuesday morning, after which he appeared at a Brooklyn criminal court later that day. Judge Gina Abadi issued a protection order, and Kurucs now cannot see the woman. However, Rodions left the court without posting bail after no plea was entered. Kurucs’ next scheduled court appearance is on October 21, two days prior the Brooklyn Nets’ season opener.
Prosecutors said in court that Kurucs got into an argument with the woman on June 27 and even threatened to kill himself, according to multiple reports. Also, he allegedly choked her, threw her on a bed, and slapped the woman. Supposedly, she suffered rib, hand, and facial injuries, and went to a medical clinic afterward.

Per the New York Daily News, who cited Kurucs’ agent, he and the woman traveled together to Las Vegas the day after the alleged incident. They remained in the relationship until the breakup which occurred a few days before she went to the police to report the suspected fight. Kurucs’ lawyer said that the woman didn’t offer photos of the alleged assault, which is going to make it harder to build a case against the Nets forward.
The Brooklyn Nets released a statement saying they’re in “the process of gathering more information.”
