Nevada at Colorado State: Will the Martin twins combine for 30 points?

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The Nevada Wolfpack look set to have their best season in school history. Nevada has never won 30 or more games in a season, and the program has never finished with a top-four seed in the NCAA Tournament either. Both of those feats are well within reach this year as the Wolfpack are running away from the field in the Mountain West with a record of 21-1. They made it to the Sweet Sixteen last year with a collection of upperclassmen that included the great Martin twins, Caleb Martin and Cody Martin, and they are leading the team once more this year. Their dominance has led offshore sportsbook BetDSI to offer a prop bet on whether or not the twins will score 30 points or more against the Colorado State Rams on Wednesday.

Will Caleb Martin and Cody Martin combine for 30 or more points against Colorado State?

Yes -115

No -115

Basic averages show that this is a solid number. Caleb Martin is Nevada’s leading scorer and he is averaging 19 PPG, while Cody Martin is averaging 11.3 PPG. Caleb has been a little more prolific the last couple games though because he has been able to get to the line often. He got to the line 10 times against UNLV and nine times against Boise State within the last week, and that led to him scoring 26 and 30 points in those two games.

Caleb loves to fire away from range. More than two-thirds of his shots have come from downtown, so his accuracy from distance will be a huge reason whether the brothers go over the total. Meanwhile, Cody is more of an interior player. Just 28 percent of Cody’s field goal attempts are threes, and he usually goes inside in order to get off easier shots. That’s why, for the second straight year, he is hitting 51.7 percent of his shots.

We have a prior data point when it comes to these two teams too. Nevada and Colorado State met just two weeks ago in Reno in a game that the Wolfpack completely dominated from beginning to end. The Wolfpack may have led by just seven at halftime, but they imposed their will and finally broke the Rams in a second half route.

Nevada ended up winning that game by a final score of 100-60, and the Martin twins went off. Caleb was 6-12 from beyond the arc, while Cody was 9-10 from the floor.

Colorado State has the 284th best defense in the country, and the Rams have only shut down Air Force’s offense in conference play. That’s not much to write home about, so they know they are in a world of trouble here.

The Wolfpack are going to be heavy favorites in this road game, and the Martin brothers should get to their combined point total. Eric Musselman is not pulling his starters early on in games anymore, so they will have every opportunity to get to 30 or more.
