Any argument between starting Josh Rosen or Ryan Fitzpatrick might be moot after rumors surfaced the team has put three of its best players on the trading block. Safety Reshad Jones, wide receiver Kenny Stills and linebacker Kiko Alonso could all be on a different team when Week 1 begins.
The trade rumors gets worse. Reportedly, there’s a chance the Dolphins will cut any or all the players if they can’t move them to dump their salaries. Jones will make $13 million this season, Stills $8 million and Alonso is due $6.5 million.
Potential Dolphins Players on the Trade Block: Kenny Stills, Reshad Jones, Kiko Alonso & I wouldn't be stunned if Albert Wilson or Raekwon McMillan were also on the block. Those are expensive guys, so unless a team is in desperate need at those positions, Miami might be out of luck. Not that any of these guys would be out of a job for long. They’d just be looking at smaller, one-year deals after clearing waivers.
One thing is for sure, you don’t dump this much talent, even if you have guys pushing them in camp, unless you’re expecting to struggle this season. You might even call it “tanking.”
The last team to be accused of the “T” word was the 2017 New York Jets, who managed to get the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 draft through all the deft, landing Sam Darnold out of USC. Head coach Todd Bowles even got another year on the job after the tank, but couldn’t keep it. He was replaced by Adam Gase this last offseason, who, ironically enough, Flores replaced in Miami.

The current Dolphins coach isn’t any serious danger of getting fired, regardless of what happens in 2019, but he has too good a QB situation, with Rosen and Fitzpatrick, to expect a Top Three draft pick. A Top 10 selection is almost a certainty and shipping Stills, Alonso and Jones out of town could help secure it, saving some cash in the process.
Jones recorded 72 tackles with four for a loss last season. He had nine passes defended, three interceptions and returned one for a touchdown.
Stills caught 37 passes for 553 yards and six touchdowns in 2018.
Alonso recorded 125 tackles, three for a loss, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, six passes defended and three interceptions last year.
