As the bye weeks continue and the injuries pile up, the waiver wire in Week 10 will play a significant role for many fantasy owners. Even as the NFL crosses the midpoint of the regular season (as all teams have now played at least eight games) knowing what to expect every week is a challenge. Looking at matchups, skillsets and recent performance, these players could fill a hole or provide a boost for your team. Here are the best waiver wire adds for Week 10 of the NFL season.
Top Quarterback
Jay Cutler– Miami Dolphins
As crazy as it may sound, Jay Cutler is probably the best quarterback you will find on the waiver wire in Week 10. Cutler is coming off, by far, his best game of the season. Cutler topped 300 yards for the first time this season and did not turn the ball over for just the second time this season. The Dolphins get another primetime game in Week 10, playing the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are good against quarterbacks this season but looked a little sluggish in Week 9 (giving up over 300 yards and two touchdowns). If you need a quarterback, Cutler is an interesting option.
Top Running Back
Damien Williams – Miami Dolphins
A second Miami Dolphin makes the list for best waiver wire options going into Week 10. After trading Jay Ajayi to the Eagles, running back Damien Williams has seen his role expand in the Dolphins offense. He set a season-high with seven attempts (although he rushed for just 14 yards) and matched a career best with six receptions. Williams value will come in the passing game. Cutler is notorious for checking down to running backs and should use Williams in that role. Williams has a chance to be the feature back in Miami, but he will need to prove himself more in the next few games.
Top Wide Receiver
Marqise Lee – Jacksonville Jaguars
Staying in the state of Florida, but shifting cities, fantasy owners will find the best wide receiver to grab going into Week 10. Marqise Lee is coming off his third straight game with over 70 yards receiving and caught his first touchdown of the season. Lee came alive last season in the second half, topping ten fantasy points in PPR leagues in five of his previous seven games. The Jaguars host the Chargers in Week 10, who are tied for sixth in the NFL in touchdowns allowed to wide receivers per game.
Top Tight End
Tyler Higbee – Los Angeles Rams
For the second week in a row, Tyler Higbee has a great matchup, as the Rams will host the Houston Texans in Week 10. The Texans give up the sixth most points to tight ends this season. The Texans have allowed a tight end to either catch a touchdown or top 50 yards receiving in all but one game this season. Look for Goff to target Higbee enough on Sunday to be fantasy relevant.
Top Defense
New York Jets
It has been quite a season for the New York Jets, who have not been nearly as bad as everyone predicted. Their defense gets a great opponent in Week 10, as they travel to the warmth of Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers. The Jets defense has forced at least two turnovers in five straight games. They are coming off a seven-sack performance in Week 10 and will get to face Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has been sacked four times in just over one game worth of playtime. The Bucs are a team that’s crumbling and they’ll be without Mike Evans (suspension). The Jets are a good spot start.
Top Kicker
Mike Nugent – Dallas Cowboys
Heading to Atlanta to face the Falcons, Nugent will have the privilege of kicking inside a dome in Week 10. The Falcons allow the second-most points to kickers in fantasy this season. Nugent has an 86.7% career field goal percentage inside of domes in his career.
The Cowboys offense has hit their stride in recent weeks. Ezekiel Elliott is running the ball well and Dak Prescott has been zoned in. As long as he is the kicker for the Cowboys, Nugent is a good fantasy option.
