NFL Futures: The Oakland Raiders used to be known as pro football’s “Dynamic Organization” and were the most successful professional sports team for a quarter century, but the current generation of Raiders fans have known a lot more failure than success and last year’s 4-12 record was a reminder of just how far this once proud franchise has fallen and how far it has to go. Oakland opened as a 50/1 long shot to win the AFC championship, and at 100/1 to win the Super Bowl. The Raiders had an over under win total of 5 -130 over and even money under.
Longshot QB for Longshot Team
Former Houston QB Matt Schaub arrives to try and jump start the NFL’s 23rd ranked offense. The defense ranked 22nd in the NFL overall and 29th for points allowed.
Handicapper’s Notes
Against the spread the Raiders have covered just five out of their last 20 games as a favorite with seven of their last 10 games as a chalk going over the total. Oakland has lost 12 out of their last 20 games ATS as a dog with just two out of their last 8 games as a dog going under the total. Oakland has paid out in just five of their last 17 home games with just two of their last 12 home games going over the total. Oakland has covered six of their last nine away games with five of their last seven away games going over the total.
Our Prognosis
The Raiders organization has been bad for a long time and there is no evidence that will change in 2014, especially with a QB off the scrap heap.
