NFL Matchups: Colts to host Eagles on Monday Night Football

NFL Matchups:  The Indianapolis Colts may have made the playoffs in their first two years with Andrew Luck as QB but their metrics are pretty average and they benefit from playing in a weak AFC South division.  The Colts were outclassed at Denver last week on Sunday Night Football though they did sneak through the backdoor for the cover.  The Philadelphia Eagles stunned the football world by winning the NFC East in head coach Chip Kelly’s first season on the job last year and are coming off a thrilling comeback win and cover last week to get their season off to a promising start.

The Indianapolis Colts (-3) will host the Philadelphia Eagles at Lucas Oil Stadium on ESPN Monday Night Football with coverage starting at 8:30 PM ET.

Luck at the Backdoor

The Colts lost at Denver 31-24 last week as eight point dogs after trailing 31-10 with 9:54 to go in the game.  Luck passed for 370 yards and two fourth quarter touchdowns in the backdoor cover.

Eagles Soar Late

Philadelphia rallied from a 17-0 halftime deficit and broke a 17-17 fourth quarter tie with the final 20 points of the game to beat Jacksonville 34-17 as 10 point favorites.  The game epitomized the explosive Kelly offense and how it can detonate out of nowhere and then keep coming.  QB Nick Foles threw for 322 yards and two TD’s and the Eagles added 145 yards rushing on 32 attempts.

Matchup and Pick

The Eagles have been a slightly profitable commodity on the road with a mark of 10 payouts in their last 18 away games as eight out of their last 11 away games have gone over the total.  The Colts on the other hand have been an outstanding board value at home with a mark of 15 payouts in their last 19 games at Lucas Oil Stadium with five out of their last eight home games going over the total.   The Colts have beaten the Eagles straight up in four out of the last five head to head meetings and got the money in all five of those games as all five matchups went over the total.  We’ll call for the Colts (-3) and over the total (53.5) in this one.
