Right now, the San Francisco 49ers are quietly one of the hottest things going in the NFL. Furthermore, they’re 5-0 and looking to get to 6-0 against the Washington Redskins this coming Sunday.
Equally important, that’s where their head coach Kyle Shanahan once resided; coaching under his father Mike Shanahan. While it sounds like he’s happy to be in a new spot, he expanded upon this a little further. In an interview with 95.7 The Game, Shanahan sounded like he was avoiding talking about a disaster in Washington.
What was the best part of working in Washington?
“Being able to work with my dad & be around some other good coaches.”
What was the worst part?
“Everything else.”

First, he was asked the best part about being in Washington. Clearly, he didn’t have a lot of great things to say
“Being able to work with my dad and be around some other good coaches,” Shanahan said.
Next, Shanahan was asked about the worst part of being in Washington as a coach; naturally.
“Everything else,” Shanahan said.
Wow, well that doesn’t leave much out as far as the worst things. Therefore the first thing I picture is owner Daniel Snyder at the controls of everything.
Finally, he expanded upon his answers the best he could. This came after being asked if he felt added motivation to hand a defeat to the Redskins after his tumultuous time there.
“No, not at all,” Shanahan said. “That was a while ago. I’ve been in three different buildings since. My dad retired. He’s good. We’ve accepted what we had to deal with there and moved on. We’ll watch other people deal with it.”
Remember, the Redskins recently fired head coach Jay Gruden. Of course, this was after being taken to task publicly by former player and Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Theisman with how they were planning to handle rookie Dwayne Haskins.
It’s easy to see that the Redskins are in need of a change of some type, and likely several. Obviously it’s going to be a long time before we see them return to respectability. You can guess at what Shanahan is really thinking when you read his quotes. However, if he ever decided to open up while sitting on a barstool next to you about what he really thought; we would know why Washington is such a mess presently.
