With the final cut-down to 53 players looming, teams have started to weed out the chaff. Some of that “chaff” has been pretty good in the past, or had seemingly un-tapped potential. Some guys, like Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy, just cost too much. Saturday, the Bills informed McCoy that his services would no longer be required by the team.
McCoy is coming off his worst season as a pro, playing in 14 games and gaining just 514 yards. He averaged a career-low 3.2 yards per carry and scored three touchdowns. He did catch 34 passes for 238 yards.

The two-time All Pro is entering his 11th year in the league, something rare for running backs. He was due $6.175 million this season and, for a starting back, that’s not bad at all. The Bills obviously wanted to move on.
Reportedly, rookie Devin Singletary out of Florida Atlantic has been getting all the work with the first team. Singletary rushed for 4,287 yards and 66 touchdowns in his three seasons at FAU.
Where could McCoy end up?
It’s unlikely he’ll spend the season out of work and he has plenty of connections in the league that thought pretty highly of him when he was with the Philadelphia Eagles. Namely, current Eagles head coach Doug Pederson and Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Both teams could use some help at running back and both are Super Bowl contenders.
Bengals part ways with 2018 third rounder
There’s a rule of thumb when it comes to the NFL Draft. In round one, you get at least a day one starter and a potential star. In round two, you get a day one starter and in round three, you get a guy that has the potential to be a day one starter, but will start by year two or three. That’s why high picks are so valuable and that’s why linebacker Malik Jefferson’s release by the Cincinnati Bengals is a surprise.

Jefferson was a third rounder just a year ago out of Texas. He played in 12 games last year, recording 10 tackles.
