He was likely to start the season as the Denver Broncos No. 3 quarterback, now he’ll start it in street clothes. Second round pick Drew Lock reportedly will miss some time after suffering a bad sprain in his throwing hand. The injury occurred in the second quarter of Monday night’s game against the San Francisco 49ers when Lock was sacked.
Following his MRI, #Broncos rookie QB Drew Lock was diagnosed with a bad sprain, source said. But the good news is, no surgery is required. He’s obviously going to miss some time.

Lock’s been good this preseason and, with Joe Flacco and Kevin Hogan ahead of him on the depth chart, seemed prime to get some solid development time as the Broncos prepped him to possibly be their future starter at the position. The rookie out of Missouri completed 60.8 percent of his passes for 254 yards, a touchdown and interception in his preseason action.
What Lock’s injury might do is keep Brett Rypien, nephew of former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien, on the roster for an extra few weeks before the team likely sends him to the practice squad. The former Boise State QB was signed as an undrafted free agent this offseason.
