NFL News: Green Bay Packers Great Bobby Dillon Dies at 89

Vinatieri Colts

He reset the record books for the Green Bay Packers and no one has surpassed them since. Bobby Dillon, the Packers’ all-time interceptions leader, passed away Wednesday at 89. The former safety played for Green Bay from 1952-1959.

Dillon recorded nine interceptions in three separate seasons in his tenure with the team. In 1969 he was named to the 50th Anniversary Squad and the All-Modern era team in 1976. When they put together the All-Century team in 1999, he was on that too.

He was a six-time All Pro selection, something that impressed former Packers general manager Ron Wolfe decades later. Wolfe spoke of Dillon’s achievement in 2008.

“Look what he (Dillon) did,” Wolf told Packers.com. “Six years on a first team all pro. (The Detroit Lions’) Yale Lary got in there because he was a really good player, but he also was an exceptional punter. But Dillon played on a much poorer team and he had six years he was All Pro.”

He is survived by his son Dan, daughter Karen Gooch and three grandchildren.

In other Packers news, the team traded linebacker Reggie Gilbert to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for a seventh round pick.
