NFL News: Jay-Z Wants to Own and NFL Team and More

Brian Hoyer Colts

Jay-Z’s partnership with the NFL was no spur of the moment decision. The man also known as Shawn Carter has plans to become an NFL owner, first as a minority stakeholder, then possibly as the primary owner of an NFL club.

This wouldn’t be the first time Jay-Z dipped his tow into sports ownership. He owned a piece of the Brooklyn Nets and sold his stake in 2013.

According to TMZ’s sources, “Jay is going to have ‘significant ownership interest‘ in an NFL team.”

Which team will it be? No one has a clue right now, but this path to ownership has worked before. Jimmy Haslam owned a piece of the Pittsburgh Steelers before buying the Cleveland BRowns. David Tepper did the same thing, bought a chunk of the Steelers, then turned that around to buy the Carolina Panthers.

It appears if he has an ownership stake, Jay-Z can solve his own Colin Kaepernick problem by just signing the guy to be the back up quarterback on his team.

Jay-Z and the NFL have recently joined together, with the artist becoming the league’s “live music entertainment strategist” with an eye towards “social justice.”

As crazy as it sounds, Jay-Z is worth a billion dollars and that’s not nearly enough to run an NFL franchise. It’s an exclusive club and it’s not one that’s easy to get into.

INJURIES SATURDAY

Running back Jonathan Williams went down with a chest injury. The Indianapolis Colts running back didn’t return in the team’s preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

Ishmael Hyman, a wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns, went out in that same game with a concussion.

TRANSACTIONS

  • The Baltimore Ravens are adding another camp leg. Just a couple of days after trading Kaare Vedvik to the Minnesota Vikings, the team is adding Cameron Nizialek as a back up punter.
  • Running back Elijah Hood will join the Jacksonville Jaguars. To open a roster spot, the team cut quarterback Tanner Lee.
  • Former first round pick Stephone Anthony is out of a job. Saturday, the Atlanta Falcons cut him to sign cornerback Jalen Myrick. Anthony was a first round pick for the New Orleans Saints in 2015.
