It was a good day to be a San Francisco 49ers defensive back. It wasn’t so good a day for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. The designated franchise savior tossed not two, not three, but five consecutive interceptions during Wednesday’s practice session.
The recipients? Richard Sherman, Ahkello Withersppon, Jaquiski Tartt and Tarvaris Moore got him twice.
“He (Garoppolo) threw it to the wrong team five plays in a row,” 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “I was a defensive coach today, so I was pumped. But no, the defense did great today and obviously he struggled. You hope to never have a day like that, but I don’t think it’s never not happened to anyone. When you do that, you hope you can practice long enough and give him a chance to play out of it and use it as an opportunity that hopefully you can do in a game. Hopefully you don’t have five in the game, but you can play yourself out of two in a row or something like that.”

That’s the good thing, this wasn’t a real game. Garoppolo is actually pretty good under the lights, at least in the 10 starts he’s made as a pro. Injuries cut short his season last year after a 1-2 start where he completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 718 yards and three touchdowns. The two losses last year were the first of his five-year career.
Warren Sapp talks Gerald McCoy
Departed defensive tackle Gerald McCoy feels that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers moved on too quickly after cutting him this offseason, tossing his jersey at incoming free agent Ndamukong Suh. McCoy is now with the Carolina Panthers on a one-year deal.
“I earned that respect,” McCoy said. “… Tampa hasn’t been a winning team, and we all know it’s hard to be considered a Pro Bowl, All-Pro person on a losing team, and I did it six years straight. That’s hard to do. For the respect I received after doing that, they showed none, and I don’t know why.”

Hall of Famer Warren Sapp thinks McCoy’s thoughts on his place in the organization’s history are a little inflated.
“He (McCoy) is a damn good player,” Sapp told the PewterReport. “A damn good player. But not even close to (the ring of honor). You damn sure don’t get legendary status or tell somebody to put your jersey up if you don’t take em to playoff games. … Not one playoff game. Not even a wild card. I went to nine. We went 5-4.”
