Wide receiver Josh Gordon was heading for a monstrous comeback last season and would have gotten a Super Bowl ring to boot. Instead, his demons caught back up with him and he was suspended by the NFL indefinitely.
Now, still under contract with the New England Patriots, Gordon has asked the league to reinstate him.
In 12 games last season, 11 with the Patriots, Gordon caught 41 passes for 737 yards and four touchdowns. He was on track to post his first 1,000-yard season since 2013, but he was flagged by the NFL’s substance abuse policy once again and sent home to his couch.

At the time, Gordon released a statement saying he was focusing on his mental health.
“I take my mental health very seriously at this point to ensure I remain able to perform at the highest level,” Gordon said back in December in a statement. “I have recently felt like I could have a better grasp on things mentally. With that said, I will be stepping away from the football field for a bit to focus on my mental health. I would like to thank Coach (Bill) Belichick, (Patriots owner) Mr. (Robert) Kraft, as well as countless others with the Patriots organization for their continued support. I want to thank my fans for their support as well as I continue down the path to getting back to 100 percent.”
Gordon was originally a second-round pick for the Cleveland Browns out of Baylor in 2012.
