It was not the news the Seattle Seahawks wanted to hear. Head coach Pete Carroll revealed that first round pick L.J. Collier’s ankle sprain is a bad one and will cost him several weeks as he recovers.
“It’s not a garden-variety sprain at all,” Carroll said.. “It’s a little bit of an unusual one … upper part of his foot. It’s an unusual one for us. We really haven’t had a guy sprain his ankle just like this. … It’s a rare sprain.”
Sounds like LJ Collier could miss the start of preseason. Carroll said he had a “rare” ankle sprain and it’s “gonna be a bit.” They’ll take it slow with their first-round pick. #Seahawks

Collier is still expected to be ready for Week 1, but this is a setback for a rookie that the team was counting on to pick up some of the slack from losing Frank Clark in an offseason trade. Last year, with TCU, Collier recorded 27 tackles, 11.5 for a loss, four passes defended and six sacks.
Jaguars lose Quincy Williams for four-to-six weeks
Collier wasn’t the only rookie to get a bad medical report Thursday. Jacksonville Jaguars third-round pick Quincy Williams suffered a meniscus tear in his right knee and will sit four-to-six weeks.
Sources: #Jaguars LB Quincy Williams, the third-round pick who has been impressing in camp, is out 4-6 weeks with a slight tear in his meniscus. He’ll need arthroscopic surgery to trim it. Given the timing, he won’t miss much game time.

The linebacker out of Murray State was the leading candidate to step in for Telvin Smith, who is taking the year off from football to deal with personal issues. Last year with the Racers, Williams recorded 111 tackles, 9.5 for a loss, one sack, two forced fumbles and two interceptions.
Also Thursday, the Jags claimed tight end Donnie Ernsberger off waivers after he was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
