NFL News: Patriots David Andrews Hospitalized and More

Vinatieri Colts

New England Patriots center David Andrews was hospitalized due to a blood clot in his lungs Monday night. There is no timetable for Andrews’ return and it’s expected he will miss multiple regular season games at least.

According to WCV5, Andrews did not attend Patriots practice Monday, his second consecutive absence from the team. Now we know why.

Andrews was originally signed as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia in 2015. He started 11 games as a rookie and has been the team’s full time center ever since, only missing two games in 2017.

With their starting center out, 2016 sixth round pick Ted Karras moves into a starting role, but leaves a hole across the roster. Karrass is the back up for all three interior lineman position with New England. James Ferentz and Cole Croston are the only non-rookie interior linemen on the Pats’ roster.

In other New England news, the team cut running back Robert Martin after being with them a single day. Martin was on the Giants practice squad last season. Martin was an undrafted free agent in 2018 out of Rutgers. As a senior, he rushed for 452 yards and three touchdowns, averaging 4.5 yards per carry.
