Patriots News: In Spite of All the Signs, Tom Brady Says He’s Not Retiring in 2020

Brady

He’s put his house up for sale. He’s signed a new contract that gives him a raise, yet makes him a free agent at the end of the season. In spite of both of those facts, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady insists his plan continues to be playing until his 45. He’s currently 42.

“Yeah, I do (plan to play until 45),” Brady told WEEI Monday. “It’s a big commitment and it’s a lot of time and energy I put into getting ready for practice, post-practice treatment. The mental part of the game is not the challenge. It’s just really working hard to keep my body in physical preparation, physical shape. I’m not a robot. It’s a lot of time and energy to prepare myself and my body to play. I love doing that, and I think that’s why I’ve been very fortunate to play as long as I have.”

The conjecture started when details of the new deal emerged and his New England house appearing on the market only fanned the flames. He says there’s nothing to see here.

“You shouldn’t read into anything,” Brady said. “It takes a long time to sell a house. I don’t know if you guys know, my house is little bit of an expensive one, so it doesn’t fly off the shelves in a couple of weeks…. I am certainly at a place, we have been at the same place for a long time and I love playing for the Patriots. I have such a great relationship with Mr. (Robert) Kraft and Coach (Bill) Belichick and our team. We’ll worry about that when that happens. This isn’t the time to worry about it.”

Of course, his home in Boston isn’t only one that he shares with his wife Gisele Bundchen and their children. They have houses in New York, California, Montana and Costa Rica. At least, those are the ones he mentioned.

Brady is coming off his sixth Super Bowl championship and ninth Super Bowl appearance. He’s beginning his 20th season with the Patriots.
