Kevin Byard has been one of the best safeties in the NFL for the last two seasons and now he’s getting paid like one. Wednesday night the Tennessee Titans announced they had signed the fourth-year player out of Middle Tennessee State to a five-year contract extension worth $70.5 million with $31 million in guaranteed cash.

Byard is now the highest paid safety in football, with a yearly salary of $14.1 million. He was a third round pick in the 2016 draft and started seven games his rookie season. Taking over the starting spot for good in his second year, he was named an All Pro and made the Pro Bowl after leading the league with eight interceptions in 2017. He added 87 tackles, 16 passes defended and two fumble recoveries to his stat sheet that season.
Last year he recorded 90 tackles, eight passes defended and four interceptions. He will now suit up for Tennessee through the 2024 season.
NFL teams add players to start training camp
The Minnesota Vikings signed running back De’Angelo Henderson after cutting Roc Thomas. Henderson was originally a sixth round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2017. Last season he played for the New York Jets, appearing in three games and rushing twice for 19 yards.

Wide receiver Da’Mari Scott wasn’t out of work long. After getting cut by the Buffalo Bills, the wideout was picked up by the New York Giants. New York brought in kicker Joey Slye while they had their contract-signing pens out. They released defensive back Tony Lippett and got a commissioner’s exemption for Kamrin Moore, who was suspended last week for an alleged domestic violence accusation.
Scott was an undrafted free agent with the Bills last season and appeared in three games, but did not record a stat.

Seattle made a couple of roster moves Wednesday, signing defensive tackle Earl Mitchell and wide receiver Daniel Williams. Safety Lano Hill went on the PUP list, Caleb Scott on the Non-Football injury list and they cut cornerback Derrick Thomas and running back Marcelias Sutton.

Mitchell is entering his 10th year in the league, spending the last two years with the San Francisco 49ers. In 2018, Mitchell started 12 games with 28 tackles and two for a loss.
Williams was an UDFA last season out of Jackson State who bounced around between the Cleveland Browns, Washington Redskins and New York Jets, but never saw the field.
