NFL picks: “Too Little Too Late” is the way to describe the Denver Broncos 21-16 win over the Seattle Seahawks last week in the preseason opener for both teams and a rematch of last February’s Super Bowl in which the Seahawks annihilated the Broncos. Meanwhile the San Francisco 49ers lost their Super Bowl, not to mention Harbaugh Bowl, rematch of 2012 with the Baltimore Ravens in poor fashion. The San Francisco 49ers will host the Denver Broncos at Levis Stadium on Sunday with coverage on NFL Network starting at 4 PM ET. BetDSI opened with the 49ers as a 3 point favorite and with a total of 39.
Comeback Payout
The Broncos win over Seattle was in dramatic fashion as Brock Osweiler hit Jordan Norwood on a 34 yard TD pass with 7:22 to play in the 4th quarter for the game winning score. Denver was a 1 point favorite and the game snuck under the total of 37.5. The Broncos were effective on the ground as they ran for 116 yards on 25 carries. Peyton Manning did see action and was sharp with 10/13 passing good for 78 yards. Osweiler was 6/12 good for 85 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. Denver was sloppy as they committed 12 penalties for 95 yards and the defense allowed 298 total yards.
Fool’s Gold
The 49ers are coming off a 23-3 loss at the Baltimore Ravens last week as 2.5 point dogs with the game going under the total of 37. The 49ers were rendered helpless as they had a time of possession of just 20:23 and Baltimore had a 27-13 first down advantage. Blaine Gabbert had an awful debut for the 49ers as he was 3/11 for just 20 yards with an interception. Colin Kaepernick threw for 17 yards on his only pass. Josh Johnson was 6/8 for 63 yards as the most effective 49er QB of the game.
Our Pick
The 49ers are 8-5 against the spread in preseason under head coach Jim Harbaugh and in the Levis Stadium opener it is sensible to expect a top 49er effort, especially after such a bad performance last week. We’ll call for the San Francisco 49ers to get the money in this one!
