NFL picks: The Washington Redskins are in a very important preseason as they are adjusting to the new ways and systems of rookie head coach Jay Gruden who is charged with fixing a broken offense and battered QB in Robert Griffin III who went from a rookie sensation that led the Redskins to an unexpected playoff berth in 2012 to a player that was discredited and labeled a coach killer after Mike Shanahan was fired based in large part to constant disagreements with RGIII. The Cleveland Browns are also in an important preseason transition and also have a rookie head coach in Mike Pettine. But most exciting of all is another rookie, Johnny Manziel, who was their top draft pick and is in the midst of a battle for the starting QB job. The Washington Redskins will host the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night at FedEx Field with a starting time on ESPN set for 8 PM ET. Bet DSI opened with the Redskins as a 3 point favorite and with a total of 40.5.
Johnny Football takes the Prime Time Stage
Manziel is already garnering national attention and is expected to start on this ESPN Monday Night Football stage. The Browns are coming off a 13-12 loss at Detroit last week but did get the money as 1.5 point dogs with the game staying under the total of 40. Manziel had an impressive debut passing for 7/11 and 63 yards while rushing for 27 yards on six carries. Brian Hoyer is the QB that Manziel is battling with and he was not as sharp going 6/14 for 92 yards. The Browns allowed 219 yards in the air and were penalized 11 times.
Unpatriotic Start
The Redskins dominated the New England Patriots in their game last week winning 23-6 for an easy payout as 2.5 point favorites as the game stayed under the total of 38.5. Washington chewed up New England for 177 yards on 44 carries and had a 39:12 time of possession. Kirk Cousins passed for 103 yards and a TD while Colt McCoy threw for 102 yards and a TD.
