As the season enters its fourth Saturday and each team crosses into double digits for games played, the NHL is in full swing and ready for betting. As is the case every Saturday, the NHL’s scheduled is jammed full, with a dozen games schedule from 1:00 PM EST to 10:00 PM EST. There is a lot of great hockey to pick from this Saturday, but these games leapt off the page as good games to wager.
New York Rangers @ Montreal Canadiens
Odds: NYR +122, MON -135
Two of the most disappointing teams in the NHL this season matchup for the first time this season as the New York Rangers travel to take on the Montreal Canadiens. Both team currently sit last in their divisions and have combined to go 5-13-3 through the month of October. This game will only be the Rangers third road game of the season. The team has started 0-2 on the road, giving up 11 goals in the two losses. The Canadiens, who are in a desperate need to break out of their offensive slump to start the season, will gladly welcome the Rangers to town. Take the Canadiens to get enough offense on Saturday to pick up their third win of the season.
Pick: Canadiens
Philadelphia Flyers @ Toronto Maple Leafs
Odds: PHI +140, TOR -155
The Flyers head to Toronto to face an offensively charged Maple Leafs squad. The Leafs are leading the league in goals per game, scoring an average of 4.30 every night. The Flyers will try to slow down the Leafs offense, but without consistent number one goaltending the Flyers are in trouble. The two teams have matched up very evenly in their recent history with both side going 5-4-1 against each other in their last ten outings. With a better offense and home-ice advantage, the Leafs should break the tie between these two teams and win on Saturday night.
Pick: Maple Leafs
Anaheim Ducks @ Tampa Bay Lightning
Odds: ANA +153, TB -170
The best team in the NHL, the Tampa Bay Lightning, gets a chance to be the first 10-win team this season when they welcome the Ducks to town. The Lightning have picked up a point in their last ten games against the Ducks, going 7-0-3. The Lightning have outscored the Ducks 30-16 in those ten games, and 8-2 to their last two home games against the Ducks.
The Ducks had won their previous two games, prior to Thursday night by a score of 6-2, before getting embarrassed on Thursday night, losing 8-3 to Florida. The last time the Ducks allowed eight goals, they followed up the game with a 6-5 victory. The Ducks are a quality team, and at +153, they could pull off the upset. Consider betting the over on this game if you do not want to risk taking the Ducks or think the Lightning line is too low.
The Ducks have picked up nine points on the season. They are currently sitting in fourth-last place in the Pacific Division. They are one of five Western Conference teams that has less than 10 points so far.
Pick: Ducks
Washington Capitals @ Edmonton Oilers
The marquee game of the Saturday goes to the Washington Capitals and Edmonton Oilers. These two teams have started off the year slow. However, both are riddled with talent and should begin to transcend the standings as the season progresses. Only one of these two teams can pick up two points on Saturday, and the edge goes to Edmonton. Washington has been successful on the road to start the season, going 3-2-1. However, their defense has struggled to prevent goals away from the Capital One Arena, allowing 4.5 goals per game. The Oilers offense, after struggling for most of the season, had a big game on Thursday night scoring five goals. With Leon Drasaitl back and healthy and McDavid scoring again, the Oilers should generate enough offense to beat the Capitals.
The Edmonton Oilers enter the day with just seven points on the season. That puts them in second-last place in the Western Conference. The only team that’s amassed less points than them are the Arizona Coyotes, who have still yet to win a game in 10 tries.
Pick: Oilers
