NHL Picks: The Detroit Red Wings are road favorites on Sunday as they visit the Buffalo Sabres. The Detroit Red Wings have been going under the total quite a bit this season and the Buffalo Sabres rarely score many goals so this could be a low scoring contest. There are seven games on the NHL schedule for Sunday. Here is a look at the action and NHL picks.
Detroit at Buffalo
The Red Wings are the better team in this matchup and they have owned this series, winning 9 of the last 10. The Red Wings have also been a good road team in recent seasons so they may have more value on the road. The Red Wings still have a potent offense led by Pavel Datsyuk and they have a top goaltender in Jimmy Howard. They figure to be in the mix all season for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Sabres have struggled this season as they just can’t score. They were averaging one goal per game through their first ten games. They were 2-8 in their first ten games.
Head coach Ted Nolan is not happy with his team this season and was making them skate hard earlier this week. Whether that makes any difference in this game is in debate. Nolan said he gives his teams 10 games to get started.
“You give them a little bit of rope and maybe some will hang themselves,” Nolan said. “What we saw the last 10 or so games we saw that. Now’s the time, taking it easy is over now. We got to work. I’ll take full responsibility for that. Maybe I didn’t push them hard enough. But today’s the day we have to start.”
The Sabres have not won against the Red Wings since 2009. They have dropped the last eight in the series including four games last year. The games were competitive though as the Wings won 2-1, 3-1, 3-2 and 4-2. Six of the last eight in the series have gone under the NHL betting total. The Red Wings have also won 8 of the last 10 games in Buffalo.
NHL Picks
We’ll look for the Red Wings to continue their dominance in this series and get the road win on Sunday and we’ll also look for the game to go under the NHL betting total.
