Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

It will be a battle between MEAC opponents when the Coppin State Eagles (2-15, 2-0 MEAC) welcome the Norfolk State Spartans (7-10, 2-0 MEAC) to Physical Education Complex. The game is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday, January 12, 2019.

Norfolk State Spartans at Coppin State Eagles ATS Prediction

In the Spartans’ last matchup, they topped the Florida A&M Rattlers, 72-62. Norfolk State’s free throw rate was their biggest advantage over Florida A&M. The Spartans had a rate of 0.347 (above their season average of 0.270), while the Rattlers posted a mark of 0.204 (below the 0.278 mark opponents have averaged against Norfolk State this season). Norfolk State received a boost from Jordan Butler, who put up 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Eagles were victorious over the Delaware State Hornets in their last contest, 64-60. One of Coppin State’s biggest advantages was getting to the free throw line. They had 35 free throw attempts, while Delaware State had just 12. Dejuan Clayton was the game’s top scorer with 23 points on 6-for-11 shooting from the field.

After the Spartans won the sole game against the Eagles last season, 75-67, this will be the first matchup of the year between these two teams. The Spartans had a much better offensive rebounding percentage (38.9 vs. 15.4) and had a better free throw rate (0.283 vs. 0.268).

This has potential to be a sloppy game for the offense of Coppin State. Coppin State ranks 340th in the NCAA in ball protection (turnover percentage of 23.3 percent), while the pesky defense of Norfolk State forces the 88th-most turnovers in the NCAA (21.4 percent).
