Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Navy Midshipmen Betting Preview

Navy has been tabbed as the heavy favorite and is currently giving up 24 points to Notre Dame. Vegas has placed the over/under (O/U) at 54.5 points, and it appears that there will likely be multiple good live betting opportunities for this game.

With the spread opening at -22 and the over/under initially placed at 55, this matchup’s betting odds have moved a hair.

The surprising Fighting Irish are 4-3 against the spread (ATS) and have gained 5.3 units so far. The team’s posted an O/U record of 3-4. The lackluster Midshipmen have lost 9.9 units this season. They’re 1-6 ATS and own an even O/U record of 3-3.

The Irish are looking to stay unbeaten following a 19-14 victory over Pittsburgh on October 13. Ian Book completed 26-of-32 passes for 264 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Book (31 yards on 16 rush attempts) also led the ground attack in the win and was complemented by Dexter Williams (31 yards on 13 carries). Chris Finke (six receptions, 62 yards) and Alize Mack (six catches, 31 yards) shared the receiving duties.

One week ago, Houston got the victory against this Navy crew by a score of 49-36. The Midshipmen defensive unit allowed the Cougars to pass for 413 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 157 yards and three scores. Marquez Stevenson was on a different level for Houston, recording 141 yards on eight catches. For Navy, Garret Lewis completed nine-of-14 passes for 135 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Lewis (56 yards on 22 rush attempts) and Malcolm Perry (97 yards on 10 carries, one TD) mounted the ground game in the defeat as Taylor Jackson (five receptions, 120 yards, one TD) and Perry (one catch, nine yards) led the pass-catching corps.

The Irish offensive scheme has tallied 249 yards/contest in the air overall and has 12 passing TDs so far. The Midshipmen have put up 78 pass yards per contest and have three total pass scores.

Offensively, Book is up to 880 passing yards this year, and has connected on 76 percent of his 102 attempts with nine scores through the air and only two interceptions. Book’s got an 8.64 adjusted net yards per pass attempt overall, although that number is 6.07 over the last two games.

Dexter Williams (192 rushing yards, one rush TD this season), Miles Boykin (395 receiving yards, two receiving TDs) and Chris Finke (234 receiving yards, one TD) have each played key roles of late.

On the other sideline, Garret Lewis has managed to complete 21-of-39 passes for 332 yards, two TDs and one INT. Lewis’ ANY/A stands at 7.09 for the year and 3.68 over his last two games.

Look for Lewis to attack all areas of the Notre Dame secondary. Malcolm Perry (26 receiving yards), Taylor Jackson (184 receiving yards, one receiving TD), and Garret Lewis (zero receiving yards) have collectively recorded 143 receiving yards over the last two games.
