Tonight, NXT treats the WWE Universe to another taste of the United Kingdom Brand with Pete Dunne defending the WWE United Kingdom Championship against Wolfgang in the main event. Also, there are some matches featuring the Iconic Duo (Billie Kay & Peyton Royce), Johnny Gargano, and Street Profits.
The Iconic Duo (Billie Kay & Peyton Royce) vs. Ruby Riot
Over the past few weeks, Ruby Riot took on Billie Kay and Peyton Royce in respective singles matches. Riot managed to defeat Kay but when paired against Royce, she lost due to some cheating from the Iconic Duo. Last week, Riot approached NXT General Manager William Regal asking for a tag team match against both of them at the same time to avoid unwanted interference. Regal accepts, as long as Riot can find a partner.
Somehow, the match happens anyway even though Riot can’t find a partner, leaving herself to fight in a handicap match, which features WWE’s first female referee who was first used during the Mae Young Classic. While Riot fights by herself, SAnitY’s Nikki Cross appears out of nowhere, seemingly scouting the match. While Riot is backed into the corner, Cross tags herself in and the referee allows it since Riot never had a partner in the first place.
Cross lays out the Iconic Duo before forcefully tagging herself out of the match and walking to the back. Riot, confused by the whole situation, climbs to the top rope and finishes Billie Kay off with a Senton Bomb. Winners: Ruby Riot & Nikki Cross
Johnny Gargano vs. Riddick Moss (w/Tino Sabbatelli)
Last week, Johnny Gargano was being interviewed by media outlets in the WWE Performance Center when he was interrupted by Riddick Moss and Tino Sabbatelli. Moss and his tag team partner attempted to make fun of Gargano for losing his match against Andrade “Cien” Almas at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III after being distracted by a #DIY T-shirt, but Gargano pointed out that the tag team wasn’t even on the card for the show. Gargano challenged either one of them to a match for this week, and Moss was the one to accept the challenge.
Gargano has made a great career for himself in NXT as a tag team wrestler, but now he has to hone his skills as a singles competitor. Of course, he has proven that he is talented enough to compete by himself. He was a part of the inaugural Cruiserweight Classic in the summer of 2016 and he put on incredible matches with members of the 205 Live roster and his former #DIY partner, Tommaso Ciampa.
Johnny Wrestling dodges attacks from ringside by Tino Sabbatelli, then finishes off Riddick Moss with a slingshot spear through the middle rope, picking up the win. Winner: Johnny Gargano
Street Profits vs. The Ealy Brothers
A few weeks ago, Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins) debuted and were immediately liked by the crowd. Ford and Dawkins are two talented and athletic wrestlers who have a good amount of tag team chemistry and a ton of energy.
Almost too easily, Angelo Dawkins lays out one of the Ealy Brothers to perfectly set up for a Frog Splash from Montez Ford. After their victory, they celebrate in the crowd. Winners: Street Profits
Pete Dunne (c) vs. Wolfgang – WWE United Kingdom Championship
Three weeks ago on the post-TakeOver edition of NXT, Pete Dunne and Wolfgang formed an unlikely team to defeat Trent Seven and Tyler Bate, also known as Moustache Mountain. Before their victory, Wolfgang made it clear that his sights were set on the WWE United Kingdom Championship and last week, that match was made official. The self-professed “Last King of Scotland” looks to become the third UK Champion in WWE history while competing in his first championship match for WWE.
Both men go back and forth during the whole match, yet again showing why the United Kingdom brand should be featured more on WWE television. It is Pete Dunne who retains the UK Championship, and the 11-year veteran at only 23 years old puts Wolfgang away with the Bitter End. Winner, and STILL WWE United Kingdom Champion: Pete Dunne
After the match, the Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly) attacks both men involved in the main event. Wolfgang comes to Dunne’s rescue and while Wolfgang is beaten down, Dunne rushes back to the ring… to grab his title and walk to the back. Trent Seven and Tyler Bate come to the ring to check on Wolfgang while the former Ring of Honor competitors walk away.
