One Last Look At Super Bowl Odds Heading Into The 2018 NFL Draft

NFL Draft

The New England Patriots are coming off a heartbreaking Super Bowl loss. That said, the oddsmakers clearly believe the Patriots are in position to avenge that defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles next season as the sports betting favorite to win Super Bowl LIII. The Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams round out the top-five sports betting favorites to win it all next year. With the 2018 NFL Draft right around the corner, which teams odds are most likely to be impacted by the draft? Here is a closer look at which teams are most likely to see their Super Bowl odds move significantly following the draft.

One team to keep a close eye on this week is the Atlanta Falcons, which have been rumored to be shopping wide receiver Julio Jones. The trade speculation picked up big time when Jones deleted all of his Falcons pictures on Instagram, removed everything that was Falcons related from his Twitter profile and switched his social media from public to private on Monday afternoon. Atlanta could make a big splash by trading Jones for a bundle of draft picks. Which teams would be most interested in acquiring Jones? The Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns have all been rumored to be interested in moving picks to acquire him. The Falcons are currently listed at +2500 odds to win the Super Bowl at BetDSI but those odds would take a substantial hit if they traded their best wide receiver. Meanwhile, the Packers are listed at +1000 odds to win Super Bowl LIII, but would get a severe bump if they managed to steal Jones away from Atlanta.

Another team that is being talked about a lot is New England, which is listed at +500 odds to win Super Bowl LIII. That said, the Patriots own two first round picks, two second round picks, as well as a third and a fourth round pick. Will they make a move to acquire a quarterback that will ultimately succeed Tom Brady? Or will they use those picks to bolster the roster talent around him in an attempt to load up for another Super Bowl run? The rumor mills surrounding New England will continue to turn all the way up to the draft. If they add to the roster talent at the non-quarterback positions then the Patriots odds to win Super Bowl LIII could actually move from +500 to +400 or better.

Meanwhile, it’s important not to overlook the defending Super Bowl champion Eagles when it comes to teams that could substantially add to their roster at the draft. Philadelphia owns the 32nd overall pick. Would the Eagles be willing to part with that pick in exchange for a veteran talent that can help them win now? The rumor surrounding the organization is that Philadelphia is open to moving the pick but isn’t openly shopping it around. If the Eagles could move the pick for a standout skill position player then their odds to win the Super Bowl could change from +900 in a hurry. With only a couple of days to go before the draft, it will be very interesting to see what happens with the potential for NFL teams to shake things up big time on the draft floor this Thursday night.
