Playing for Greece during the recent FIBA U19 World Championship, 2015 Oregon signee Tyler Dorsey, reminded scouts and fans alike why he was once considered the best guard in the class.
Averaging 16 points and five rebounds through the tournament, Dorsey led the Greeks to the semifinals, where they would ultimately fall to the United States.
Dorsey started off much of his high school career ranked in the nation’s top ten by almost every recruiting service while playing in Los Angeles. His tremendous size for the point guard position, natural scoring instincts, and seemingly unlimited potential as a creator make him a potential first round NBA pick.
Two summers ago, while playing with the Belmont Shore AAU club against recent NBA Draft Pick Emmanuel Mudiay and soon-to-be Mississippi State guard Malik Newman, Dorsey stole the show in an epic Las Vegas showdown. Shortly after the game, offers from programs like Duke started to roll in.

Questions about his true position, work ethic, character, and leadership began to come about only a year ago, where rumors about his inability to get along with teammates at skills camps ran rampant around the country.
At the end of the day, though, Oregon HC Dana Altman has shown an ability to mold a mix of personalities into one successful team, and Dorsey’s ability to put the ball in the basket fits in just fine with what the Ducks have done in recent years, sporting some of the Pac-12’s top scorers.
If this past weekend was any indication of what Dorsey can do, we may need to look at him as a true POY candidate and Freshman of the Year.
