Overwatch League Stage 2 Week 4 Preview

The Overwatch League is back in action and the story this week is drama. Teams like the Dallas Fuel, Boston Uprising, and London Spitfire have struggled as they have all dealt with internal issues over the last couple weeks. Boston took the first steps toward moving past those hiccups with a 4-0 sweep over Dallas on Wednesday, and London will try to show that those problems have been resolved before a gigantic matchup with the Seoul Dynasty on Saturday.

New York Excelsior -10000
Shanghai Dragons +1400

I don’t think we’ve seen a more one-sided affair than this one. New York is clearly the best team in the league at this point after beating Seoul 3-2 on Wednesday night. Seoul was previously undefeated in Stage 2, but some incredible Genji play from Libero led to NYXL picking up the win.

NYXL is just loaded from top to bottom. The support play has been incredible, the tanks are rock solid, and the damage has been there all year too. Unlike other teams that give their substitutes a chance to play when taking on Shanghai, NYXL only has eight players and they all play often so the Dragons will still be facing the full brunt of the best team in the Overwatch League.

For Shanghai, it was announced yesterday that help will not come until Stage 3. The additions made at the end of Stage One have needed some time to get their visas in order, but they will all be good to go in a few weeks. Hopefully, the Dragons will be more competitive at that point.

Los Angeles Valiant -334
Florida Mayhem +240

The big question surrounding the Mayhem is whether or not this team has finally turned a corner. They had their best week yet last week, reverse sweeping Dallas and nearly knocking off Houston. However, both teams are in some disarray and it’s still to be determined whether or not Florida has truly improved.

This is a game that the Valiant must win if they are to stay in the hunt for the Stage 2 Playoffs. LA is currently 4-2, but a loss in the second Battle of Los Angeles really hurt those chances. Kariv’s play since moving from Support to DPS has been fantastic and given this team a different dynamic. They should continue to evolve and pick up the win against Florida.

London Spitfire -1600
San Francisco Shock +700

San Francisco is literally counting down the days until sinatraa and super are eligible to play. The Shock have been waiting for this duo to make their grand entrance all season and that should greatly improve this team. However, the duo are still going to be too young for this match-up, meaning that it will once again be up to babybay to win the match.

The Spitfire have undergone some major changes over the last week. Head coach Bishop is out and rumor has it that his assistants will soon leave too. There is a vacuum at the top, and that makes the Shock a very live dog even though London is much more talented. London will probably win, but it should not be this big of a favorite.
