Patriots News: Patrick Chung Indicted on Felony Cocaine Charge

Vinatieri Colts

As synonymous as their team is with discipline, the New England Patriots seem to end up with more of their fair share of players in prison. The latest guy that could be headed that way is safety Patrick Chung, who was indicted by a grand jury on a charge of cocaine possession.

Chung will be arraigned on Aug. 28. The Patriots released a short statement.

“We are aware of the reports regarding Patrick Chung,” the Pats said. “We will not be commenting while his judicial proceedings take place.”

The NFL was even shorter in its comments.

“We will monitor developments in the law enforcement matter.”

The safety was busted with the alleged cocaine on June 25 in Meredith, New Hampshire.

Chung just re-upped with New England in April with a one-year contract extension. He’s been with the Patriots since they drafted him in the second round out of Oregon in 2009. Last year he recorded 84 tackles, one for a loss, 0.5 sacks, one fumble recovery, three passes defended and a pick.

Amari Cooper unconcerned about foot

Amari Cooper is line for a major pay upgrade and possibly his best season as a pro. All he needs now is for his foot to heal. Specifically, his heel.

Cooper has been held out of practice all through August with plantar fasciitis, but according to the wideout, if real games were being played, he’d be ready.

“(I’d be) real effective,” Cooper told USA Today. “I’m not really worried. …It’s not really that bad, especially just walking around. But to do the things that I do on the field, obviously I’m cutting really hard, I’m stopping really hard. I played with a lot of foot injuries.. I played with high ankle sprains. All those things so I’m pretty good at playing with foot injuries. But I don’t think I’m going to have to play with it.”

Last season with the Cowboys and Oakland Raiders, Cooper caught 75 passes for 1,005 yards and seven touchdowns.
