Peyton Manning’s Super Bowl Party, the NFL Highlight King

Manning or Brady? Brady or Manning? That was one of the most popular debates in the NFL during the 2000s and early 2010s, and Peyton Manning had a little fun with the mini-rivalry in a short video spoof that was released yesterday. The New England Patriots overcame a 28-3 deficit in Super Bowl LI to beat the Atlanta Falcons (sorry, to all my friends in the ATL), and with the comeback Brady established himself as the GOAT. Manning’s reactions throughout this game are gold, and it brings back memories of his famous United Way sketch.

In the late 2000s, ESPN’s efforts to try to remain relevant and hip often resembled the gif of Steve Buscemi trying to fit in with high school students. The Worldwide Leader has gotten a lot better in this area, and is beloved by large swaths of its audience once more, but this poll feels like something we would have seen when Sportscenter was running segments about “Who’s Now?”. Kyler Murray has yet to play a down in the NFL, and to include him on this list over players like Baker Mayfield, Antonio Brown, Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey, Alvin Kamara, or Lamar Jackson is absurd. All of the aforementioned players already have plenty of highlights to their credit, while Murray will likely have major problems adapting to the NFL as a rookie.

The offseason is a time for lists and rankings as everyone tries to create content, and two NFL analysts are looking at the best 25 quarterbacks in NFL history. Lists like these are always somewhat subjective and designed to create at least a little bit of controversy, but this one is largely spot on. They have a lot more respect for prior eras than you typically see in these lists with Otto Graham and Johnny Unitas both in the top five, but those two legends were so much better than their contemporaries that it’s deserved.
