The PGA Tour will make its final stop in Texas this week with the Dean & Deluca Invitational from the Colonial Country Club. The name is new but this tournament is well known as the Crowne Plaza Invitational as an annual stop on the Tour since 1946. Jordan Spieth will headline the event in his hometown of Fort Werth but he has yet to win an event in his home state of Texas and his expensive price tag combined with his poor form of late left is with no choice but to pass on him. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s PGA fantasy DraftKings tournaments.
Matt Kuchar, $11,000
Kuchar is our best bet for this week for multiple reasons and the fact that he is available at nearly $2K less than Spieth makes him an excellent pick. Kuchar is coming off back-to-back third-place finishes at The Players Championship and the AT&T Byron Nelson and he has three top-10 finishes in his last four events overall heading in to this week. Kuchar also has an excellent history at this tournament including a runner-up finish here in 2013 so we love him as our top pick for this week’s DraftKings tournaments.
Zach Johnson, $10,700
Johnson is another golfer with an excellent track record at this tournament as he is the all-time money leader and holds the course record at Colonial. Johnson finished T-19th here a year ago but he placed in the top-five here four years in a row from 2010 through 2013 and he should bounce back from last year’s disappointing tournament by his standards. Johnson enters this tournament having gone four straight starts without a top-25 finish so he is due for a strong performance this week.
Kevin Na, $9,200
A missed cut at TPC Sawgrass isn’t enough for us to shy away from rolling with Na this week as he is primed to bounce back at a tournament where he has an excellent track record. Fatigue likely played a role in Na’s disappointing start but he has six Top 25 finishes in his last nine appearances at this tournament and he has already recorded five top-five finishes this season. Na led after 54 holes at this tournament last year before a disappointing final round forced him to finish T-10th. Hopefully he’s hungry for a little bit of revenge as that might add some focus. If he finishes strong this weekend, he could contend for the outright win.
Will Wilcox, $6,700
There is no way we can roll with three of our best bets to contend for the outright win this week in DraftKings tournaments without balancing out our lineup with some strong sleeper value plays and Wilcox is one of them. Wilcox has made the cut at four of his last five events and we expect him to deliver a strong performance in his first start at Colonial this week. We’re not expecting him to win the tournament outright by any means, but a solid showing will do well for us in PGA fantasy.
David Hearn, $6,400
Hearn has made the cut in four of the last five years at this tournament including a pair of top-25 finishes at this event so he should be a strong PGA fantasy sleeper value play once again this week. He enters this week in fine form after finishing in the top-30 in three of his last four starts and we fully expect Hearn to continue his strong play at the Dean & Deluca Invitational.
Bronson Burgoon, $5,900
With exactly $6K left over to address the final spot on our roster, it only makes sense to take a flier on a player with decent upside in Burgoon. The rookie has made the cut in five of his last six events and is coming off a strong T-24th at the Byron Nelson last week so it makes a lot of sense to roll with him this week with the hope that he can stay hot and provide us with some decent PGA fantasy production at a ridiculously low price.
