PGA Fantasy: Honda Classic

The PGA Tour heads to Florida for this week’s Honda Classic that will signal the start of a full month of tournaments from the state. That will mean a full slate of fantasy tournaments on DraftKings that begin on Thursday including the featured PGA $4M Fantasy Golf Millionaire SUPERSatellite contest. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA fantasy tournaments.

Rickie Fowler, $11,700

Fowler took a couple of weeks off following his playoff loss at the Phoenix Open, so he will be well-rested and focused heading in to this week’s event. He also captured a victory in Florida last year when he won THE PLAYERS Championship. Fowler might have struggled at last year’s Honda Classic, but he has made the cut here in each of the last four years including a T-7 back in 2012. If his recent form is any indication, then this could be the year he breaks through and wins this tournament. It’s a hefty price tag here for PGA fantasy purposes but we like him in this spot.

Patrick Reed, $10,600

Reed has been incredibly consistent with five top 10’s in his seven events in the 2015-16 PGA Tour season. He finished T-6 at Pebble Beach in his last tournament and finished T-7 in last year’s Honda Classic after a rough final trip through the Bear Trap cost him four strokes. Reed will have learned from that lesson from last year’s tournament and he should be a lock for a strong performance with a very legitimate chance to win this tournament outright.

Billy Horschel, $7,300

There is no way we could have locked in both Fowler and Reed at more than $10K if there weren’t some strong value options on the board so we are certainly thankful that there are plenty of them beginning with Horschel. It’s always a good idea to roll with the Gators when the PGA Tour goes to Florida. Horschel struggled in his last two tournaments at this course, but he did finish T-8 at Torrey Pines earlier this season and finished in the top-25 at Phoenix so we will plug him in to our lineup and hope that he can turn it around at Palm Beach this week.

Ernie Els, $7,100

Els has made the cut in all, but one of his six appearances in the Honda Classic, including a victory at this tournament in 2008 and two more top 25 finishes after that. That’s why we have full confidence in his ability to perform this week. Factor in that he is coming off a solid performance at last week’s Northern Trust Open where he finished T-26 and it’s clear that Els is worth taking a shot on at just over $7K in PGA fantasy.

Adam Hadwin, $6,800

Hadwin remains one of the best sleeper picks on the board every single week in DraftKings contests because of both his current form and his ridiculously low price tag. Anybody that took a chance on him in PGA fantasy at Riviera last week was rewarded with a T-16, which was his third top-20 finish in his last four tournaments. Hadwin has consistently delivered for us over the past few weeks so it only makes sense to ride the hot hand until either his price tag goes up or his play falls off.

Ben Martin, $6,500

Martin bounced back from consecutive missed cuts with a strong week at the Riviera to finish T-16 at last week’s Northern Trust Open. It was his best finish of the season and could signal an early turning point. Martin finished T-31 at this tournament a year ago after firing a 65 in the final round and if he can build on the momentum of last week’s performance and that final round at Palm Beach Gardens a year ago then he could provide outstanding value as a deep sleeper pick that fills out our lineup.
