PGA Fantasy: Tour Championship Lineup

The PGA Tour shifts to Atlanta, Georgia and the East Lake Golf Club for the TOUR Championship this week. The field has been trimmed down to the top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings heading in to the final event of the year and now the best in the world get their chance to compete for their share of an $8.5 million purse and the opportunity to be called tour champion. With only 30 entrants and no cuts, there is a unique opportunity to take some chances on some strong value plays in this year’s field. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s PGA DraftKings fantasy tournaments.

Jordan Spieth, $10,600

Spieth is coming to the end of a disappointing season by his own standards but he still has two wins, a runner-up finish, a third-place finish and eight top-10 finishes to show for it. Perhaps most important is that he is coming off his best finish in months when he finished ninth at the BMW Championship and he will have the opportunity to end the season on a high note at this event. Spieth should be in solid form and he should be a strong pick to contend for the outright win at the TOUR Championship.

Jason Day, $10,300

Day was forced to withdraw from the BMW Championship with a back injury but he has said he is good to go for the final event of the year and he will get his shot at redemption this week. Day has been outstanding when he is healthy enough to make it through an entire tournament and taking last week off will only help his back feel better this week. Day has three top-10 finishes in his last five starts at East Lake and so we fully expect him to contend with Spieth for the outright win this week.

Jimmy Walker, $7,900

Walker missed the cut at both the Wyndham Championship and The Barclays following his PGA Championship win but he followed that up by finishing third at the Deutsche Bank Championship and then 13th at the BMW Championship. He appears to be rounding back in to form at the perfect time and we are expecting a strong performance from Walker in the final event of the season.

Charl Schwartzel, $7,700

Schwartzel is coming off a fourth-place finish at the BMW Championship a couple of weeks ago and we are banking on him exhibiting that strong form again this week as a strong value option. Schwartzel has all of the tools to contend this week and while he might not win this event outright, we do like him as a strong value play with top-10 potential.

Emiliano Grillo, $6,900

Grillo hasn’t looked outstanding in his last two starts, but he did finish 13th at the PGA Championship, eighth in the Olympics tournament and second at The Barclays, so there is reason to have high expectations for him this week. On the season, he has one win, one second-place result, two Top 10’s, nine Top 25’s and 21 cuts made. He’s currently ninth in the FedEx Cup standings. Why he’s a good play this week is because Grillo hits a lot of fairways and greens, so he should be primed for a strong performance this week at East Lake.

Kevin Na, $6,500

Na followed up a missed cut at The Barclays with his third top-20 finish in four starts at the BMW Championship and there is reason to believe he could be a solid value play this weekend. He has been producing some fairly consistent results over the last month or two, so he’s well worth a play at this price. He finished second at the U.S. Open, 27th in the WGC Bridgestone, 22nd in the Open Championship, 22nd in the PGA Championship, eighth in the John Deer Classic and 10th at the Wyndham Championship before missing the cut at The Barclays. That’s a decent run for a player who will only cost you $6,500.

There aren’t many other players available at a lower price on DraftKings so considering his upside, Na should be a strong sleeper value pick for the TOUR Championship.
