Which Will Be Higher?
Zach Ertz Receptions (-160)
Jordan Spieth Final Round Birdies (+135)
The first prop on the board pits Philadelphia Eagles’ tight end, Zach Ertz, versus Jordan Spieth in terms of catches versus final round birdies. Ertz had eight catches for 93 yards against the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game. In his five games prior, he had three, two, nine, six and two receptions, respectively. As for Spieth, he shot 4-under par in his final round last year with five birdies.
If Ertz delivers another performance like the NFC Championship Game, that will be hard for Spieth to top. If Ertz is at five receptions or less, Spieth has a shot to cover.
Which Will Be Higher?
Jay Ajayi Rushing Yards (-115)
Jordan Spieth Final Round Score (-115)
Jay Ajayi has averaged 52.2 rushing yards per game over his last six with the Eagles. Conceivably, he needs to hit about 73 rushing yards to safely top Spieth in this spot. Spieth’s four rounds last year at the Phoenix Open consisted of 70, 68, 67 and 67.
For what it’s worth, Ajayi has faced the Patriots three times in his career and has totaled 75 yards in those three outings.
Which Will Be Higher?
Tom Brady Passing Yards (-120)
Phil Mickelson Average Driving Distance (-110)
Another prop concerning the Waste Management Phoenix Open is Phil Mickelson’s average driving distance versus Tom Brady’s total passing yards. Mickelson’s average drive on the PGA Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open was 301.0 yards. Last year in the fourth round at this venue it was 308.5 yards. Meanwhile, Brady threw for 337 passing yards against the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Divisional Round, but then threw for 290 yards against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Championship game.
The Eagles have a strong defense, giving up the second-lowest yards-per-attempt average in the NFL this season (6.5). Brady will need to have a great day to surpass Mickelson, who should have smooth sailing off the tee in sunny Phoenix.
Which Will Be Higher?
Rob Gronkowski Total Receptions (-140)
Phil Mickelson Final Round Birdies (+110)
The final cross-sport bet related to the Waste Management Phoenix Open hones in on Rob Gronkowski’s total receptions versus Mickelson’s final round birdies. Mickelson was EVEN in his final round last year with six birdies. On the season, Gronkowski averaged 4.9 receptions per game. In the playoffs, he had six receptions on nine targets against the Titans but had just one reception against Jacksonville before he was knocked out with a concussion.
Gronk appears to be healthy as reports have indicated that he’s through the concussion protocol and has been going full tilt in practice. As long as he’s healthy, he should be a focal point of the Patriots offense.
However, keep in mind that the Eagles don’t allow opposing tight ends to do much damage. They have allowed an average of 3.0 receptions per game to opposing tight ends over their last 10 contests.
