Philadelphia Phillies slugger Bryce Harper has a healthy son and a happy family. Harper and his wife, Kayla, announced Sunday the birth of his son last Wednesday.
The name? Krew Aron Harper.
Unique? You bet. Memorable? Absolutely. Healthy? Most important.
The return of the dad
Harper returned from paternity leave Monday night and hit a home run in the Phillies’ 6-5 walk-off win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
It was his 28th round-tripper of the year and helped the Phillies rally from a 4-2 deficit to eventually take a 5-4 lead. The Pirates tied it up again in the ninth, but Philadelphia won it in the bottom of the 11th on Sean Rodriguez’s line-drive home run.
An exciting game and an important one for the Phillies, who are one game behind the Chicago Cubs for the second wild-card spot in the National League.
But all the new dad wanted to talk about afterward, naturally, was Krew Aron.

Looking to the future
On a weekend in which Ken Griffey Jr.’s son caught a pass in an NFL preseason game, we are reminded that time never stops and the athletes in their prime will soon be the dads of athletes in their prime.
Krew Aron likely will grow up in Philadelphia, considering his dad signed a 13-year deal with the Phillies last winter. The Harpers announced that Kayla was pregnant during the first week of the season, and now the baby is here.
Will he be a pennant chase baby? The Phillie Phanatics can only hope so.
