Here’s an interesting thought exercise: What is the most attractive NBA coaching position that is currently open? One could make a strong case for the Phoenix Suns. In addition to Devin Booker, a superstar in the making, the Suns have the best odds to land the No. 1 overall pick. (They won a highly competitive Tankathon.) The Suns also have some interesting young role player pieces, like Marquese Chriss, Dragan Bender, Josh Jackson, and T.J. Warren.
The Suns fired coach Earl Watson three games into the season, and with the regular season in the books, they’re now looking for his long-term replacement. So, who’s in the mix?
ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting the Suns met with Atlanta Hawks head coach Mike Budenholzer on Monday and Tuesday. Budenholzer is still under contract for two more seasons, however, so the Suns would likely need to surrender assets to acquire him.
Former Grizzlies head coach and current ESPN commentator David Fizdale is reportedly also in the mix.

And Frank Vogel, whom the Orlando Magic recently fired, is also in contention.

Among the other names that have come up in rumors: Steve Clifford, whom the Charlotte Hornets recently fired; former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt; and Suns interim head coach Jay Triano.
A number of jobs have already opened — including those in New York, Charlotte, and Orlando — and others will open soon. Some speculate Clippers head coach Doc Rivers could be pushed out.
Current ESPN analysts Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson, whom rumors have linked to the Knicks’ search, are expected to contend for the openings.
