Some of the world’s best golfers will make their way to Scottsdale, Arizona and the TPC Scottsdale Golf Course for the Waste Management Phoenix Open this week. All eyes will be on the par three 16th hole with another raucous crowd looking to add to an event that has become known as, “The Greatest Show on Grass”. We broke down this week’s field to figure out the best possible lineup for the DraftKings PGA contests revolving around the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Here is a look at the optimal lineup for this week’s DraftKings PGA fantasy tournaments.
Hideki Matusyama, $11,700
Matsuyama proved his worth here a year ago when he came out on top with a playoff win over Rickie Fowler. His course form is definitely strong here as he registered a runner-up finish at this tournament back in 2015 and finished fourth in his debut in 2014. With three straight top-five finishes including last year’s victory, it’s pretty much impossible to overlook Matsuyama as the best pick on the board for this week’s DraftKings competitions.
Ryan Moore, $8,600
Moore is the type of steady veteran with a strong track record at this tournament that he definitely deserves a spot on this roster. Moore has placed inside the top-20 in each of his last four appearances at the Waste Management Phoenix Open including a fourth place finish in 2013 and he is in excellent form heading in to this week on the heels of five straight top-25 finishes.
Adam Hadwin, $7,800
It’s about time that Hadwin’s DraftKings price tag was significantly adjusted after we used him as a sleeper pick for most of last season. Hadwin might not be the outstanding value play he was a year ago but at under $8K, he still represents an excellent option for this week. Hadwin followed up a runner-up finish at the CareerBuilder Challenge with a top-50 finish at the Farmers Insurance Open so he should be primed to bounce back with a strong performance this week. He’s played very well this year as four of his last five results were in the Top 27 with three of them being 21st or better.
Tony Finau, $7,600
Finau has been one of the hottest players on the PGA Tour of late and he is an absolute steal at just $7.6K for this week’s event. Finau is coming off a fourth-place finish at the Farmers Insurance Open and he has finished in the top-20 in each of his last three tournaments overall. He tied for 20th at the Sony Open in Hawaii and also tied for ninth at the SBS Tournament of Champions. He hadn’t been playing particularly well before that, though, so keep that in mind. He missed the cut at the OHL Classic at Mayakoba, tied for 41st at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, tied for 33rd at the CIMB Classic and tied for 26th at the Safeway Open.
Finau has struggled with consistency in the past at this event but with his confidence at a higher level than ever before he should be just fine this week. When a golfer is playing well, it’s a good idea to stick with them in daily fantasy and that’s exactly what we’re doing with Finau in this spot.
Keegan Bradley, $7,400
Bradley has really picked up his level of play this PGA Tour season with six top-25 finishes through his first seven starts. Somewhat of a forgotten man following a terrible stretch from 2015 through 2016, Bradley is playing at a very high level right now including a tie for fourth at the Farmers Insurance Open last week. Listed at just $7.4K, Bradley should be an excellent sleeper pick for this week’s tournament.
Louis Oosthuizen, $6,900
Oosthuizen followed up a top-10 finish at the Hero World Challenge with a disappointing effort at the Farmers Insurance Open in which he still managed to place in the top-50. Looking forward to this week he should be focused on a strong bounce back effort after spending the week in North America. At just under $7K, Oosthuizen is a strong value pick that could surprise at the Waste Management Phoenix Open this week.
