Pierre-Paul May Have Cost Himself Money, Thumb

Jason Pierre-Paul celebrated the 4th by trying to end his football career.

Of all the dumbass things we do as Americans, right up near the top is celebrating the birthday of our country with high explosive devises. New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul was the victim of his own patriotism Saturday night, reportedly injuring his thumb and some of his fingers in a fireworks accident.

Pierre-Paul still hasn’t signed his franchise tender, $14.83 million, and if the Giants decided to pull the offer after the injury, Pierre-Paul would become a free agent. Luckily for Pierre-Paul and the team, the injury doesn’t seem to be “career-threatening” according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen is reporting that the injury may not be that serious at all. He was taken to a South Florida hospital. There’s been no official report from the Giants or Pierre-Paul’s representatives concerning the accident.

The five-year veteran out of South Florida had 77 tackles, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and six passes defensed last season for the Giants.

Packers’ Andrew Quarless arrested Saturday, is an idiot

Pierre-Paul wasn’t the only NFL player to spend Independence Night away from home. Green Bay Packers tight end Andrew Quarless was arrested in Miami Beach, Fla. after firing two shots into the air and he didn’t even do it out of love for the U.S. of A.

The incident happened, according to witnesses, around 5 a.m. with Quarless and a friend got into an argument with some girls in another car. Quarless, completely forgoing everything he learned from the Bruno Mars’ discography, whipped out a pistol and fired two shots into the air because the ladies love that kind of thing.

Quarless was charged with discharging a firearm in public. When the cops found him he was reportedly hiding in a decorative plant outside a restaurant. I did not make that up.

The incident could likely cost Quarless is job as he just caught 29 passes for 323 yards and three touchdowns last season in pass-happy offense, even though he’s listed as a starter. It was the most productive season of his five-year career. He certainly doesn’t seem worth the trouble.

The Packers do have some good young depth at the position, with second-year Richard Rodgers out of Cal, second-year Justin Perillo out of Maine and rookie Kennard Backman out of UAB.
