Premier Boxing Champions Odds: Austin Trout Takes On Joey Hernandez

The “Premier Boxing Champions” follows up it’s Sunday matinee today from the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles with a card set to air on Fox Sports 1.  The main event features Super Welterweight action as Austin Trout (29-2) faces Joey Hernandez (24-3-1) in a 10-round bout.

Right now, the sport books have installed Trout as a solid (-1700) favorite over Hernandez, who is returning at (+1100).  The over/under is set at 9.5 rounds, with the over paying (-300) and the under coming in at (+250).

Hernandez is coming off a loss to Julian Williams (18-0-1) this past April on a PBC broadcast that also featured Adonis Stevenson‘s WBC Light Heavyweight title defense against Sakio Bika.  In that bout, Hernandez was considered to be stepping up in competition level, and he lost every round, earning (100-89) scorecards from all three judges. Hernandez’s other taste of higher competition saw him go 12 rounds with Cornelius Bundrage, losing 118-110 on the cards of all three judges there.

Trout has been in there with the elite of the sport, having gone 36 rounds with Erislandy Lara, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and even earning a win over Miguel Cotto.  Since suffering the setbacks to Lara and Alvarez, Trout has gone 3-0, notching wins against competition that he is favored against.  That is the case here with Hernandez, as Trout tries to regain some of the momentum he had after defeating Cotto to close out 2012.  The fact is that despite going 3-0 since going 0-2 in a rough 2013, he has not looked as impressive as he did before he was able to cash in a few paydays.

The entire live event features nine fights in all, with the co-main event being a ten round Super bantamweight bout that sees undefeated, surging Jorge Lara (27-0-1) taking on Jesus Rojas (21-1-1).

The lone blemish on the 24-year-old Lara’s record is a draw that came back in January of 2011 in just his fifth fight, so he has won 23 fights in a row and is on the cusp of bigger things.  Rojas too would like to win and step up to bigger things, but the 29-year-old has not fought since August of 2014 and he missed all of 2013 in a 20 month layoff prior to that.  He did pick up three wins in 2014, but the competition level in those fights was lower than what Lara brings to this fight.
