Premier Boxing Champions Odds: Kameda Fights McDonnell For Bantamweight Crown

Sunday’s Premier Boxing Champions broadcast features a main event at bantamweight featuring Tomoki Kameda facing Jamie McDonnell for the WBA World title.

The bout is a rematch of a a May meeting that saw McDonnell get up off the canvas and go on to win a tight unanimous decision, with all three judges awarding the British fighter the fight (114-113). Kameda, a former world champion himself, disagreed with the decision and has campaigned for a rematch, which is now his.

At 31-1, Kameda is one of the premier fighters under contract with advisor Al Haymon and the Premier Boxing Champions series, and Kameda risked a great deal in signing with Haymon and leaving the insulated world of Japanese boxing, so a second loss in a row for Kameda could be a huge setback.

The co-main event features veterans on the comeback trail as former WBC World Super Middleweight champion Anthony Dirrell (27-1-1) faces Mexican hit-man Marco Antonio Rubio (59-7-1) in a bout that sees both men trying to rebound after losses in their previous fights.

Dirrell lost his WBC belt to Badou Jack  in April of this year in a match he was expected to win, while Rubio is coming off a longer layoff.  Rubio was last seen as Gennady Golovkin‘s latest victim back in November of last year in a match no one gave him a chance at winning. Jack defends his title next week against England’s George Groves, and a match-up between the winners of Dirrell-Rubio and Groves-Jack could be slated to meet on a future “PBC” broadcast.
