A week into the season, it turns out there are plenty of teams that could use bullpen help (shocking), and elite closer Craig Kimbrel is still out there on the free-agent market. When will someone bite the bullet and sign him? It’s a question that many are beginning to ask around Major League Baseball. Other questions they’re asking: What’s wrong with the Red Sox? How long will Jake Lamb be out? And who hit for the Majors’ first cycle of the season?
Craig Kimbrel might not be signed until June 3, when teams no longer will cost themselves a compensatory draft pick by bringing him aboard. But how many saves will the Cubs, Red Sox, Braves and others blow before then?

Meanwhile, Kimbrel’s former team, the Boston Red Sox, are in disarray. The reigning World Series champs are 2-7 on their season-opening West Coast road trip, and frustrations are mounting…

Diamondbacks slugger Jake Lamb will miss about six weeks with a strained quadriceps.

It’s possible to have a better game, but hitting for the cycle is a time-honored baseball accomplishment, and it’s worth celebrating the first one of the season. Take a bow, Jorge Polanco (even though it came in a loss).

Finally, for something lighter. Saturday is the 30-year anniversary of the release of the movie Major League. We should have gotten the live chicken.

Cutting the list to 30 was damn tough, though. So many great, great lines. Here are some that didn’t make my top 30 … pic.twitter.com/WoG8EYmFOE
