Rams News: Star Cornerback Traded To Los Angeles, After Star Corner Deal Earlier

Possibly the NFL’s best cover corner will be headed to Los Angeles to play for the Rams. Earlier on Tuesday, we wondered what the Rams were doing in moving cornerback Marcus Peters in a trade to Baltimore. Now, everything makes sense.

Indeed, the Rams are reloading; not rebuilding.

Per Adam Schefter, the Rams are giving up multiple first-round picks to the Jacksonville Jaguars for Ramsey.

Equally important, the Rams never planned on giving up on the 2019 season despite trailing Seattle and San Francisco in the division race. From the ESPN article on the Ramsey trade:

A source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that the Rams and Ramsey do not have any type of new deal in place and that the cornerback is not in a rush to get one done.

After the deal, the Rams moved from 60-1 to 50-1 to win the Super Bowl and 25-1 to 20-1 to win the NFC at Caesars Sportsbook.

Without question, it’s amazing what an impact player can do for your fortunes that remain in a season. Right now, the Rams are 3-3 and coming off a pair of disappointing losses to Tampa Bay and San Francisco.

However, they have a new feel with Ramsey in the mix. Widely considered one of the best cornerbacks in the entire league; he will definitely provide an immediate boost to the Rams’ secondary. Equally important, the Rams kept him away from the rest of the league; making it a double-positive acquisition if there is such a thing. Surely, Jared Goff will be glad he never has to worry about facing Ramsey on a rival team.

Finally, it shows that trades still happen in the NFL. While just two weeks ago, the Jacksonville owner stated that Ramsey wouldn’t be traded; situations like this are always fluid. For the right price, teams will cave. It will be interesting to see who gets the better end of this deal in a couple years.
