Globe Life Field will be opened by the Texas Rangers in March of 2020. Still, Joey Gallo is getting an early feel for his new home. On Wednesday, video came out on twitter of Gallo launching batting practice home runs with some type of crane device in the background.
In any event, it didn’t seem to bother Gallo’s launch angle. Take a look for yourself:

Now for the second time in a week, we have cool batting practice footage of a player that surfaces on social media. For instance, 51-year old Gary Sheffield was seen hitting batting practice bombs while smoking a cigar earlier in the week.
Finally, it would be great to get Gallo’s reasoning for stepping into the dusty new grounds and taking some batting practice. Was it just to get a feel for how the ball carries in December? Was it a bucket list item? Truly I wonder the reasoning behind it, but it doesn’t detract from the ‘cool’ factor of seeing it. This should happen every time a new ballpark is under construction, in my opinion.
Gallo had back-to-back seasons of 40 or more home runs in 2017 and 2018. Then in 2019 he had a season that was on track to be his best yet derailed by injury. He figures to be a major power component in this new ballpark with his full recovery from injury.
