Raw Recap: Pete Dunne Debuts in England

Photo from WWE (Twitter)

Tonight, Raw hails from Manchester, England and has a big show planned for the WWE Universe. Highlights tonight feature Braun Strowman vs. The Miz, a tag team championship main event, and the debut of WWE United Kingdom Champion Pete Dunne.

MizTV feat. Kurt Angle
At TLC, The Miz’s team imploded and crushed Braun Strowman in a trash compactor. Last week, Strowman made a surprise return and destroyed all of the Miztourage. After the assault, The Miz kicks off the show with Raw General Manager Kurt Angle as his guest. Before getting to his guest, he insults his Survivor Series opponent, Baron Corbin, in an angered rant after Corbin mentioned Maryse and The Miz’s to-be daughter.

The Miz asks why Angle put Strowman on Team Raw, and he knows that the Monster Among Men is probably capable of handling Team SmackDown all by himself. However, Strowman did demand one thing in return: a match with the Miz tonight.

Elias Samson vs. Jason Jordan – Guitar on a Pole Match
Over the past month, Elias Samson and Jason Jordan have been feuding for no real reason in particular. In one of their brawls, Samson smashed his guitar over Jordan’s head and shoulder, leading to this match. The only way to win this match is to grab the guitar suspended on the pole and use it on your opponent first.

Samson brought the guitar down to the ring, but Jordan is able to be the one to use it. After swinging the guitar at Samson’s back, Jordan wins the match. Winner (via guitar strike): Jason Jordan

Asuka vs. Stacy Coates
In her first two matches as a Raw Superstar, the undefeated Asuka defeated Emma in incredible contests. Since then, she competed in a squash match and tonight looks to be the same. Sorry, Stacy Coates.

After toying with Coates, Asuka finishes her off with the Asuka Lock. After the match, Alicia Fox (captain of the female Raw Survivor Series team) adds Asuka to her team, which already includes Fox and Nia Jax. Winner (via submission): Asuka

Titus O’Neil (w/Apollo Crews) vs. Samoa Joe
Last week, Samoa Joe made a surprise return and issued an open challenge. Apollo Crews would answer the challenge but would end up losing to the Samoan Submission Machine. After Titus O’Neil tried to attend to his client, Joe sneak attacked him and now O’Neil wants revenge. Unfortunately for him, Joe attacks him and Crews from behind and the match never happens.

Samoa Joe vs. Finn Balor
Since Joe assaulted Titus Worldwide, he issues another open challenge. This time, Finn Balor answers. The last time Balor answered an open challenge, he lost to Kane. However, Balor and Joe have quite the history in NXT. They fought for months over the NXT Championship, with Joe eventually keeping the title while Balor transitioned to the main roster.

After a solid 15 minutes of great action, the fight spills to the entrance ramp. Both men are too focused on the fight to realize that the referee is counting and the match ends in a double count-out. After the match, they keep fighting until officials pull them apart. Surprisingly, this convinces Kurt Angle to put both men on Team Raw. Result: No Contest

Announcement
The last member of the men’s Raw Survivor Series team is someone that Kurt Angle can trust: Jason Jordan.

Nia Jax & Alicia Fox vs. Sasha Banks & Bayley
If it unclear why the women’s Survivor Series team would keep fighting each other, but that’s better than what SmackDown barely did with its women’s division last week.

After Sasha Banks and Bayley work together to throw Nia Jax out of the ring, Banks forces Fox to yet again tap out to the Bank Statement. Fox is tired of losing to Banks, so she drafts her to the Survivor Series team. However, she didn’t draft Bayley. Winners (via submission): Sasha Banks & Bayley

The Miz vs. Braun Strowman
After everything mentioned earlier during MizTV, the Intercontinental Champion (The Miz) goes one-on-one with the Monster Among Men.

Strowman decimates the entire Miztourage when Kane comes down to the ring and starts fighting Strowman. This causes the match to end and they fight to a stalemate. After failing to put away Kane, Strowman then powerslams the Miz for good measure. Winner (via disqualification): Braun Strowman

Enzo Amore vs. Pete Dunne
As usual, Enzo Amore comes to the ring an cuts a promo that’s way too long and uses way too many references, but his point is to insult Kalisto. Kalisto interrupts and comes down to the ring looking to respond, but he immediately leaves and sits at ringside. Out of nowhere, Pete Dunne’s music hits and he makes his Monday Night Raw debut. It is unclear if this is a one-time thing for being in Manchester, or if he is going to stick with Raw for the foreseeable future.

For those who don’t know, Pete Dunne is the current (and second only) WWE United Kingdom Champion. Dunne was the breakout star of the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament, making a name for himself by assaulting his upcoming opponents. Tyler Bate would end up winning the tournament, but Dunne captured the title from Bate at NXT TakeOver: Chicago in what still is easily the best WWE match of 2017.

Amore spends the entire match distracted by Kalisto, which gives Dunne the perfect opportunity to smash him in the mouth. After sending Amore head first into the turnbuckle, he finishes the Cruiserweight Champion off with the Bitter End pumphandle slam. Winner: Pete Dunne

Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Sheamus & Cesaro – Raw Tag Team Championships
Earlier tonight, Sheamus and Cesaro told Kurt Angle that they want to be at Survivor Series. Angle said that they will get one last shot to become the Raw Tag Team Champions tonight and if they win, they will take on the Usos at Survivor Series.

During the match, The New Day appears in the risers of saying that this is #UnderSiege part two. After Kurt Angle goes into panic mode bringing the whole locker room to the arena, they reveal that it was a fake just to throw them off. Sheamus takes advantage of the distraction to Brogue Kick Seth Rollins, giving the Bar their third Raw Tag Team Championship reign. Winners, and NEW Raw Tag Team Champions: Sheamus & Cesaro
